• Security Etching is a quick and simple process by which the vehicle’s registration or VIN [Vehicle Identification Number] is permanently marked onto the outside of the vehicle’s glass windows or headlights. Auto Guardian’s Anti-Theft Etching Kit uses a cream based formula and pre-cut stencil kit to erode the glass surface to produce a vehicle’s identification in a matte finish.

  • It’s very discreet and will not devalue or detract from the look of your vehicle.

  • UK:

A leading recovery service in the UK reports that by using Window Security Etching a vehicle would be up to 5 times less lightly to be stolen. In their document ‘Steer Clear of Crime’, the Home Office recommends to have the vehicle’s registration or VIN number etched onto all glass surfaces - including the headlamps.

Vehicles that have Window Security Etching have a 64% lower theft rate on average than non- security etched vehicles. Etched vehicles have a much higher chance of recovery if they are stolen. In fact, Window Security Etching is so effective that some insurance companies will offer discounted premiums for Window Security Etching on a vehicle in the USA.

Police forces across a number of European countries recommend Window Security Etching as a theft deterrent.

  • Anti-Theft Security Etching is one of the simplest and most effective ways to deter car thieves instantly. Security Etching makes a vehicle less attractive to thieves as the Police are able to accurately identify a stolen vehicle.

Anti-Theft Security Etching is the least expensive vehicle anti-theft system when compared to the other prevention systems on the market such as conventional alarm systems with sirens, and vehicle tracking and recovery systems.

In addition to this; Auto parts buyers are less likely to purchase parts that carry identification and marked parts carry a higher risk for the thief and the seller. Automotive glass generally carries no identification numbers and can be interchangeable between different models and years – making it a lucrative business for the car thief. If a vehicle’s windows are etched with the registration or VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) – thieves would need to discard the glass, or even replace it - severely reducing their profits. The Police also have a greater chance of recovering your vehicle if your windows are etched.

  • Car Window Security Etching is recognised by many Insurance Companies as an effective way of protecting your vehicle. Ask your insurer whether they offer a discount.

  • For detailed instructions please refer to the “Your How to Apply Guide” on our website

    Basic Instructions:

You will initially need to ensure that the surface is clean and grease free before fixing the protective paper and your pre-cut stencil to the recommended glass surface. You will then need to apply a small amount of etching paste, using the spatula provided, and apply the paste sparingly over the stencil making sure that all of the pre-cut holes are filled. You must take care not to get any paste outside of the area, if this does occur you must wipe off immediately with a damp cloth.

Wait for at least 5 to 10 minutes before removing the pre-cut stencils and wipe off any paste with a damp cloth.

Once complete is it recommended that you position the warning labels near the door lock on the inside of the front driver and passenger side windows.

The process can then be repeated for other windows.

  • VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number. Each VIN is a combination of numbers and letters that is unique to every vehicle manufactured since 1981. Prior to this time VINs were unique, but they varied in length and format. VINs can be used to track recalls, registrations, warranty claims, thefts and insurance coverage.

  • The VIN number can be found by looking at the dashboard. The easiest way to view it is to stand outside the vehicle and look at the corner of the dashboard where it meets the windscreen. If the VIN cannot be found there, open the side door and look at the door post (near the latches when it is closed). You may also find it on the DVLA V5 document, handbook or within your insurance documentation.
